Disaster rehabilitation: from assessment to long term care, with Colleen M. O’Connell

With dr. Muhammad Tawab Khalil we continue our journey in disaster rehabilitation hearing from Colleen M. O’Connell.
Professor O’Connell worked in disaster scenarios in Haiti, Nepal, Ukraine and virtually in many more emergencies all over the world.
Very important, in the first hours after the disaster, is the rapid assessment to understand how many people sustained injuries that will need long term rehabilitation. Important also that the leadership is assumed by local professionals and the local health system. Capacity building is also decisive to help people even after the emergency.
