Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in Morocco
and worldwide. While advances in diagnosis and treatment have improved survival, many
individuals living with lung cancer continue to experience substantial impairments in
functioning, activity limitations, participation restrictions, and reduced quality of life.
Despite strong international evidence supporting rehabilitation as an essential component of
cancer care, rehabilitation services remain insufficiently integrated into lung cancer pathways in
Morocco. Currently, no national guidelines exist to support healthcare professionals in
identifying rehabilitation needs, referring patients appropriately, and delivering evidence-based
rehabilitation interventions throughout the cancer continuum.
This initiative proposes the development of the first National Lung Cancer Rehabilitation
Guidelines in Morocco, using internationally recognized methodologies, including the WHO
Package of Interventions for Rehabilitation, GRADE recommendations, and Delphi consensus
processes.
The initiative will be officially launched during the 4th International Congress of Thoracic
Oncology in Fez and aims to establish a national roadmap for integrating rehabilitation into lung
cancer care.
