InSCI provides the database to describe the situation of individuals living with SCI as a basis for the Learning Health System for SCI, which is s a joint effort of ISCoS and ISPRM to implement the recommendations of the International Perspectives on Spinal Cord Injury (IPSCI).

Now, the first six overarching InSCI papers are published in the December 2020 issue of the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation – a big milestone for this international research endeavor.

The papers provide the background and first results of the survey conducted in 22 countries between 2017 and 2019. This is the first international community survey that focuses both on the lived experience of persons with SCI and the societal response to their needs. Moreover, the survey provides invaluable data for comparison of the situation of persons with SCI between and within countries. As InSCI is part of a larger initiative designed to facilitate policy change at the national level, within the context of a learning health system, a proposed implementation strategy is also described.
