ISPRM stands with PERDOSRI following earthquake and floods in Indonesia

ISPRM has received an update from Dr Rumaisah Hassan, President of PERDOSRI, the Indonesian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, following the recent earthquake and tsunami warning.

The earthquake affected several regencies, with the most severe damage occurring in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

At the time the warning was issued, Dr Hassan was in Aceh Province to inaugurate the new board members of the PERDOSRI Aceh–North Sumatra Branch, and to meet members and hear first-hand the challenges facing PRM colleagues on the ground. The visit also included an inspection of post-disaster areas in Pidie Jaya Regency, recently devastated by severe flash floods, where agricultural fields lie buried under thick mud, disrupting the community’s main livelihood.

PERDOSRI reports that its members in the affected regions are safe, though some have evacuated as a precaution. The Society has issued key reminders and disaster mitigation guidance to its membership, and is now assessing immediate rehabilitation needs — particularly functional recovery and mobility support for those affected.

ISPRM extends its solidarity to colleagues and communities across Indonesia and stands ready to support PERDOSRI’s coordination efforts as the situation develops.

Dr Hassan will also serve as President of the ISPRM 2027 World Congress, to be held in Bali in June 2027 — an occasion that will bring the global rehabilitation community to Indonesia.
