Prof. Marta Imamura elected National Academy of Medicine member

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) announced on monday Oct 9, the election of 90 regular members and 10 international members during its annual meeting. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

We congratulate Professor Marta Imamura, ISPRM Past President, for her election as an international member!

New members are elected by current members through a process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. 

Marta Imamura, MD, PhD, associate professor, department of legal medicine, bioethics, work medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation, University of São Paulo School of Medicine, São Paulo, Brazil. For her internationally recognized research exploring the role of central and peripheral sensitization and neurophysiological biomarkers contributing to chronic disabling myofascial (musculoskeletal) pain. This work is being evaluated for use by the Brazilian Unified Health System for assessment and non-pharmacological treatment of this pain.

Prof. Imamura joins other Active ISPRM members and leaders, who have been inducted to the National Academy:
Regular Members: Walter Frontera,  Joel DeLisa, Lynn Gerber, Gerard Francisco,  Gwen Sowa
International Members: Jianan Li, Linamara Batistella, Eiichi Saito, Fary Khan, Marta Imamura.
