ISPRM–WHO Liaison Committee Shares Update at ISPRM25

At the ISPRM25 Congress in Marrakesh, Mercè Avellanet provided an overview of the recent work carried out by the ISPRM–WHO Liaison Committee, highlighting both ongoing activities and emerging challenges.
Avellanet explained that the committee had the opportunity to present its work over the past year, noting: «We had the ISPRM W.H.O. liaison Committee meeting today, and we had the opportunity to explain our activities during the last year in all the different W.H.O. regions» . She emphasized that the update extended beyond ISPRM, involving partners at the global level.
She also described some of the challenges currently affecting rehabilitation within the WHO structure: «and also to share the challenges we are facing, within the W.H.O., regarding rehabilitation» .
Avellanet highlighted that the committee works in collaboration with several international actors. As she noted, «in our group, in our committee, we have UN representatives and the World Rehabilitation Alliance also» . This cooperation is central as rehabilitation gains visibility in global health discussions.
Looking ahead, she referred to the upcoming changes within the World Health Organization. «We are all still waiting for the new organization at the W.H.O. level regarding rehabilitation. So we will face together the challenges that this reorganization will represent to ISPRM.» .
Her message reflects a moment of transition for rehabilitation within WHO and underscores the committee’s commitment to addressing these changes collectively.
