Advancing Global Cancer Rehabilitation: Highlights from the ISPRM Cancer Rehabilitation SIG

The Cancer Rehabilitation Special Interest Group (SIG) has had an exceptionally active year, as reported during the 19th ISPRM World Congress in Marrakesh. Their work has focused on expanding education, visibility, and international awareness of the essential role rehabilitation plays across the cancer care continuum.
A major milestone this year was the establishment of World Cancer Rehabilitation Day, celebrated each year on June 6th.
“We were able to establish World Cancer Rehabilitation Day on June 6th… to let all rehabilitation professionals know about the value of cancer rehabilitation,” the SIG representative noted .
Supported by ISPRM, the SIG created infographics and educational materials to help clinicians worldwide share key messages and strengthen cancer rehabilitation programs in their home countries.
“They can go back to their home country and also share that information to help develop cancer programs.”
The SIG also continued its longstanding educational initiative with the 8th Annual Cancer Rehabilitation Workshop, an international program launched years ago during an ISPRM Congress in Paris and now held annually.
“It has been an annual workshop done for cancer rehabilitation education… we’ve been very strong in that.”
The session closed with gratitude for the teamwork and ongoing support that made these achievements possible:
“We’re very grateful for the work that’s been done and very thankful for the support of ISPRM and all the members of the SIG.”
Through awareness campaigns, global engagement, and consistent educational efforts, the Cancer Rehabilitation SIG continues to advance ISPRM’s mission to improve functioning and quality of life for people living with cancer worldwide.
